LIBSENSE ECR Network - Ghana
The LIBSENSE RDM Advocacy Group, Ghana, comprises early-career researchers committed to advancing open science and research data management (RDM) practices to improve research quality, impact, and visibility within Ghana. The goal is establishing a community fostering collaboration, transparency, and data reuse, ultimately supporting national development and global scientific progress. Key objectives include raising awareness and encouraging open science adoption, building capacity in RDM, advocating for supportive policies, and strengthening networks among researchers and stakeholders.
The group actively engages in initiatives to enhance research discoverability, such as collaborating with the Regional Maritime University to train librarians on ORCID adoption in Ghanaian academic institutions. This training aims to create a more connected research ecosystem by improving the accessibility and transparency of research outputs. Additionally, the group developed a Research Data Management Workplan Template to help institutions adopt effective data management practices aligned with international standards.
Collaboration is central to the group’s approach, and they have established partnerships with organizations like WACREN and the LIBSENSE ECR Network in Nigeria. Through these partnerships and high-level consultative engagements, such as the WACREN 2024 conference and LIBSENSE RDM workshops in Ghana, they work to strengthen RDM practices both nationally and internationally. The group aims to build further relationships with academic institutions in Ghana and beyond to expand their impact on the research community.
