LIBSENSE-Connect is a comprehensive and interactive program designed to empower
African software and
developers with the knowledge and skills to embrace open science principles and practices. The program aims to
foster a more inclusive and collaborative research ecosystem by building the technical capacities to develop
infrastructure that promotes transparency, accessibility, and reproducibility of research outputs.
Through a series of hands-on workshops and expert-led sessions, LIBSENSE-Connect delves
into key open science
topics to offer practical insights into leveraging metadata, technical standards, and repository platforms to
enhance information exchange, discovery, and data sharing. The program emphasises adherence to the FAIR
(Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) to create a more connected and efficient research
Participants in the LIBSENSE-Connect are expected to gain a broad awareness of critical
technical aspects in
domain of open science and get equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop infrastructure to
open science practices within their institutions and contribute to the global advancement of knowledge through
transparent and accessible research dissemination.
- Strengthening Research Infrastructure:
Participants will learn how to build and optimise
research infrastructures that facilitate seamless information exchange, data harvesting, and aggregation.
- Promoting FAIR Compliance:
LIBSENSE-Connect will guide participants on implementing the
principles, ensuring that research data and outputs are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
- Metadata and Standardization:
The program will enhance the understanding of the role of
metadata and technical standards like HTTP, JSON-LD, and Linked Data Notifications to enhance data
- AI and Open Repositories:
LIBSENSE-Connect will help to explore the
challenges in deploying AI for open repositories, now and the future
- Persistent Identifiers and Standardization:
Ensuring the longevity and accessibility of
research outputs through persistent identifiers (PIDs) like DOI, Handle, ARK, ORCID, and ISNI.
LIBSENSE-Connect brings together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners from diverse fields to share
insights and experiences, fostering a vibrant community of open science enthusiasts.
